Thailand

  • Our Thailand trip was a great experience. The Training conference was well worth the long journey to Chiang Mai. Sam and Sarah learned a great deal about the culture and people of Thailand and had fun meeting and getting to know other MK's. The highlight for Sam and Sarah, and us too, was the elephant ride and playing with the baby tigers (even though Sarah's unfortunate souvenir was a baby tiger bite!).

Why we do what we do

DSCN2978 We received an email from a dear friend in Bolivia  a couple of weeks ago.  Juan Carlos Condori (shown here in the orange hat and standing with members of one of the teams who went and served in Quechua ministry) is one of the Quechua brothers we know in Sucre.   Juan Carlos is probably our very best friend in ministry.

Several years ago, and continually over our entire 10  years in Bolivia, Juan Carlos felt called to ministry, both in the Nueva Vida church as a leader and Elder, and in other outreach work we were involved in.  He is tri-lengual, speaking Aymara, Quechua and Spanish.

As you may know, Juan Carlos is now employed full time with Radio Mosoj Chaski and travels teaching Quechua church leaders in the Bolivian highlands HOW to use and apply the Quechua Pastors Bookset (Bible, Concordance, Atlas, Commentary, and Dictionary…all in Quechua language).

We translated his email and share it below:

“How are you beloved family?  It has been a long time since I could communicate with you, but I want to tell you we are all well.  I have had a hard year of work and traveled throughout Oruro, Potosi, Cochabamba, and Santa Cruz (departments), but these trips were not in vain.  I want to tell you that in 2008 over 400 brothers and sisters completed the (my) courses (on how to use and apply the Quechua Pastors Bookset) which I teach, and this was only by the grace of Our God; and for next year, we have programmed travel to Challapata in Oruro, and the east (Santa Cruz), and part of Cochabamba.  I want to tell you that the projector (NOTE:  Giving from MANY helped provide a LCD projector) has been very useful to make more effective my teaching about the bookset materials.

As far as the family, we are all well, all thanks to Our God’s grace we are fine. The children passed their classes (and were advanced), both Bileyni and Benaias.  My wife, Delia continues studying cutting hair and sewing/seamstress. Brother, thanks for the projector and for your prayers, and for being my good friend, and also I want to wish you a happy birthday, and I hope you enjoy it with your family; and greetings to our friends there.

Brother Paul, blessings during these days of Christmas and New Years.  In the next few days, I will write more because I will be here in Sucre until January 10th before I travel again.  Brother Paul, until the next time, greetings to the family:  Sincerely, the Condori Family”

Juan Carlos has been involved in fulltime ministry, missions really, for several years now. The impact many of the short term mission teams who visited over the years had on his life (and the lives of others) by ministering together, strong testimonies and love poured out changed him forever.  We wanted you to know that Juan Carlos and others like him are a HUGE part of WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

Your faithful prayers and sacrificial giving for our Quechua ministry, and most recently for our equipping and leadership ministry throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, continue to make a huge impact in our life and work.

Juan Carlos does strategic work….he equips others to help grow the Quechua church.  There are other Juan Carlos’es in church planter training in Cuba, Chile, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Costa Rica, and in many other parts of Latin America where UWM ministers. They, too, are part of WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

We just wanted you to know that your partnership with the brothers in Bolivia and with other Christians throughout Latin America is strategic, it is bearing fruit, and we thank you for it.
